• Pragmatic Play Casinos

A group of investors purchased a portion of software company Top Game in 2015, which now falls under Pragmatic Play brand.Top Game was founded in 2007 and has been accepting US players from the get go. They're known for having a solid selection of slots that are a bit different than what Americans are normally given access to play. However, they're also known for associating with a lot of operators who have very shady reputations, and this tarnished the Topgame brand quite a bit. We suspect that the name switch to Pragmatic Play has a lot to do with distancing itself from this rogue image, and we will have to wait and see if they can improve their reputation in the industry. For safe and reputable brands you can choose between the following: Spartan Slots, Black Diamond, 7spins and 7 reels.

    Casino Software

One of the main disadvantages of their software, and something they'll definitely have to work on if they want to become more competitive in the market, is that it's only available in a downloadable format. This is in a time with all of the newer, leading online casino software developers are focusing almost exclusively on their instant play and mobile offerings. It's clear that they're behind the times in this area, especially since they have no mobile option, and unless they rectify this, there's no way they'll be a strong force going forward.

    Slot Selection

The main highlight of their software is their selection of slots. There are around 75 of them available total, and they're divided up between classic- and video-style games. What's so interesting here is that they're of a good quality, and it goes to show that they definitely have the potential to compete with the bigger names out there based purely on the merit of the value of their games. Because of the downloadable software issue, however, they never get a chance to stack up side-by-side with the competition. Again, this all comes down to wasted potential.

    Table Game Offering

The selection of table games is somewhat below average, but they do have a decent enough non-slot selection with video poker, blackjack, casino poker, roulette, scratch cards, keno and some other games. This is another situation where they would strongly benefit by switching their games over to an instant play platform so that their weaknesses in the table game selection could be masked by being paired up with selections of games from other software companies. As it stands, their offering of table games is well below average, though it's still better than some.

    Our Thoughts

It's extremely disappointing that Pragmatic Play is in the position it is now, but they still have room to turn it around. If they sever ties with the operators that cause players trouble and focus on bringing their software platform into modern times, then they definitely stand a shot in an industry that's now based primarily around the quality of your games instead of the quantity of your games. While it's yet to be seen if this is the case, US players will still have them as a viable choice in many cases just because of the limited availability of other options.
